Swami Sivasubramanian: Machine learning is ‘one of the most disruptive technologies we will encounter in our generation’

In December, at re:Invent 2020, Swami Sivasubramanian, vice president of machine learning, Amazon Web Services, delivered the first-ever machine learning keynote at the ninth annual conference, and the first to be held virtually.

During the nearly two-hour keynote, Sivasubramanian discussed the latest developments in AWS machine learning, invited guest speakers from the National Football League and Philips to discuss how their organizations are using AWS machine learning technologies, and had other AWS scientists join him to announce, demo, and dive deeper into some of the new technologies and services introduced.

During his talk, Sivasubramanian said machine learning “is one of the most disruptive technologies we will encounter in our generation”, adding that customers are applying machine learning “to the core of their business.”

Sivasubramanian noted that four years ago, at re:Invent 2016, the company launched its first artificial intelligence services, and since then AWS has launched “hundreds of features, including Amazon SageMaker”, adding that in 2020 alone, AWS launched more than 250 new features.

Since his talk was posted to YouTube on Dec. 18, 2020, more than 250,000 people have viewed the video. Below is a short outtake of his talk; the full keynote is available for viewing here
